Course Content
There are 5 core components to our full
4-day course:
- Learning about depression and understanding
the impact of depression on the mother, the baby and others.
- Recognising the strengths and limitations
of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Assessing
maternal mood by appropriate use of the EPDS and a standardised
interview.
- Planning brief supportive intervention
using active reflective listening skills and some techniques
from cognitive behavioural theory.
- Addressing the mother-baby relationship:
applying principles from "The Social Baby".
- Investigating other treatments such
as anti-depressant therapy.

4 day PND Training Course
The course includes the right to copy the course handbook
and the course overheads for each participant. Maximum

day Short Course
The course includes the right to copy the course handbook
and the course overheads for each participant. Maximum

1 day Workshop
This workshop aims to raise awareness for midwives, practice
nurses and Surestart workers. Maximum number of participants:

Residential Course:
- 3
day Course for Trainers
This is based at the Reading university campus. Includes
accomodation and meals, CD, video clips and two books.
Participants are permitted to use these, and other course
materials, to support their own training courses whilst
working for their sponsoring organisation.

These
courses do not equip participants to become therapists or
counsellors.
Training in the use of therapeutic techniques is limited
to those strategies that have been found to be helpful in
the management of postnatal depression and concentrates
on practice rather than theory.

Conditions
Courses
are generally delivered on the client's own premises. The
participant maxima reflect our experience of the social
dynamics of delivery this material to very large (or rather
small) groups. Our costs depend on many factors, including
time, location and your particular needs.
